Structure Reflex Reloaded

Description

The basic requirement of any structure is to bear loads. Be it static, moving or dynamic loads. Structure reflex reloaded consists of constructing a bridge with candy sticks which has to carry moving load throughout its span, based on influence line criteria. The contestants have to bring a pre-constructed bridge.

General Rules:

  1. Each team shall consist of a maximum of 4 participants.
  2. Materials to be used are popsicle sticks and fevicol (SH grade). Cutting and trimming of the Popsicle sticks is allowed.
  3. Use of any other material apart from popsicle sticks and fevicol (SH grade) is restricted and any team using it will be disqualified from the event.
  4. The decision of the judges and coordinator(s) will be final at the time of any discrepancy.
  5. The first testing will be with 1kg weight including weight of Trolley and after that load increment will be 250gms after each testing.
  6. Team has to give written consent for each higher loading.

NOTE:Rules are subject to last minute change. Contact corresponding coordinator(s) for further inquiries. Final Decision lies in hands of Coordinators and Judges. Participants have to abide the decision in all cases.

Evaluation Criteria:

The evaluation will be done on the basis of self-weight of the model, the moving load for testing and the deflection of the bridge due to the testing weight. The bridge will be judged on the basis of the factor calculated as per following formula:

Where W= maximum load carried by the bridge, in case of failure the load before failure shall be considered. δ is the deflection measured at the respective points for the load, the summation shall be done for all deflections measured at the centre and both quarter points when the load is moved at these same points.

Diagram:

Note : Refer to the diagram below for dimensions. The diagram is only an example and shall not be referred to for design. However the mentioned dimensions must be followed (are fixed) by all the participants.

Specifications:

  1. Length of the bridge should be 150 cm end to end with simply supported ends. The thickness of the deck must be between 1cm to 2cm and width 22cm. Truss structure is allowed for deck.
  2. The height of the truss bridge out to out should be 30cm.
  3. The bridge shall have an in to in clearance of 20cm for the deck.
  4. Structure having more than 15 girder panel sections will be disqualified from the event.
  5. Overlapping of only two sticks is allowed, overlapping of more than two sticks leads to disqualification.
  6. Overlapping of more than two sticks is allowed ONLY at the joints.
  7. Girder panels should be single braced section only and its thickness is included in deck thickness.
  8. Final decision will be on the basis of deflection, considering influence line type of load and self-weight of the structure and load taken.
  9. The deflection shall be measured at midpoint and two quarter points.
